A lovely day to break the law

O how beautiful filth can be! How gorgeous are the mysteries of the cold urban skeletons of long deserted buildings!

Yesterday, over a friendly breakfast, I proposed to my chums an adventure to a lovely abandoned factory. Within moments, they were all on board and we were speeding toward the outskirts of town. A little hop over barbed wire fences, and a blind eye toward the no trespassing signs, we were ready for a lovely time.

This particular factory was my first abandoned building love. It is still my favourite. Its beauty and grandeur would be hard to match by any building anywhere.

The room below has several large garage-style doors that will still open if you press the green button. The echo in this room is marvelous!

Below is a beautiful and mysterious room, illuminated by purple shutters along the top and sides. It's such a delightfully photogenic place! But what on earth was its purpose?

This room is also home to bats and owls. One must sneak into this room stealthily, then suddenly make a very very loud noise. This will startle the magnificent great-horned beauties, who will swoop down from the rafters and glide along the entire length of the room.

I am not stealthy enough with my crummy old camera to capture owls.

Next we usually work our way up various stair cases to get up to the frightening top. But prudence is a must! Precarious grates cover gaping holes in the floor.

I am quite in love with this photo of one of my dear friends:

It's pretty much a giant playground.

Next we climb! Below you can see the precarious ladder, seven stories above the ground below. Only one flimsy grate between you an certain death. It's thrilling!

To give you an idea of how high it is, the little speck in the middle of this picture below is one of my lovely friends.

After a while of childish fun on the grand urban play structure, we headed back to the city for a little backyard wiener roast. Oh what a glorious Sunday!

Alas, however, not everything is perfectly lovely. I am supposed to be on my way to the Yukon right now. My flaky friends abandoned me at the last moment. Literally. I was all packed Saturday afternoon when they called to tell me that they just realized they had plans they couldn't cancel. We might go next week, but honestly, despite my carefree gallivanting and gleeful urban exploration, I am pretty steamed.

Your are truly an urban adventuress. No way in Hell would I have done that. Great photos though.

Bummer about the Yukon.

Thanks for fixing the glitch so I can visit again!

What a great adventure. I love the old urban buildings. Too bad they tend to be torn down. We have a great old peanut factory here in south east Virginia.

I live vicariously through your urban adventures! :)

When the Sharks lost in 4th overtime and got eliminated from play-off, I thought about what time it was in Calgary and if you could be basking in misery with us...

Re:crabland. I'm on it! can I see it and set music to it or do I have to compose it first?

Does it remind anyone else of the 'resurrection ship' on Battlestar Galactica? ;)

It looks like a fun adventure. I'm jealous!
